McCanns meet with British Home Secretary
Updated: 20-Aug-2010

Gerry and Kate McCann met with British home Secretary Theresa May on August 4 to discuss the search for their missing daughter Madeleine, who disappeared from the family holiday apartment in Praia da Luz in May 2007.

According to the Press Association, Gerry and Kate McCann used the meeting to appeal for extra help from the new coalition government and asked for a full independent review of the police investigation into the search for Madeleine.

Clarence Mitchell, the McCann family spokesman, said: “I can confirm that Kate and Gerry met the Home Secretary to continue their discussions with the government over what can be done to assist the search for Madeleine. As with all their private governmental contacts, the details of the discussion with Theresa May will remain confidential.”

A spokesman for the Home Office said: “The Home Secretary held a private meeting with Kate and Gerry McCann to discuss the case of their missing daughter Madeleine. “The primary concern of the government in this matter is the wellbeing of Madeleine McCann and to ensure that everything feasible is being done to progress the search for her.”
