The weather this weekend
Updated: 30-Jul-2010

High temperatures are predicted for the entire weekend across the Algarve, with clear skies expected all weekend in the east and intermittent high cloud in the west.

Temperatures towards Sagres will reach highs of 26°C during the day on Saturday and Sunday but the evenings will feel cool as temperatures drop to 18°C on both days of the weekend.

Towards the east, in Faro, temperatures will be warmer than in the west, with highs 27°C on Saturday and rising slightly to 28°C Sunday.

In the evenings temperatures are set to drop to 22°C on Saturday and will feel very warm on Sunday with temperatures only falling to 23°C.

Wind direction will be changeable in the east towards Faro, varying throughout the weekend from northerly on Saturday morning to westerly in the evening.  On Sunday morning winds are expected to be from the north in the morning before becoming north westerly as the day progresses.

Wind speeds in the east are to be very low, reaching highs on Saturday of only 13 kilometres per hour in the evening but remaining weak during the day with highs of eight kilometres per hour.  On Sunday the wind will have dropped and will only reach speeds of three kilometres per hour during the day before rising slightly to 10 kilometres per hour in the evening.

Meanwhile, in the west, the wind will be stronger than in the east throughout the weekend.

The wind is set to north westerly throughout the weekend with consistent speeds averaging 26 kilometres per hour on both Saturday and Sunday but with gusts up to 36 kilometres per hour expected on Saturday evening.

Ocean temperatures in the east towards Faro will feel the warmest they have all year reaching highs of 24°C on Saturday and Sunday.

Higher winds in the west will see lower sea temperatures of only 19°C for the weekend in the west where the sea will be relatively calm with waves averaging 0.8 metres in height on Saturday and 1.1 metres on Sunday however in the east the sea will remain very calm this weekend with waves heights averaging 0.4 metres all weekend.

The clear skies throughout the weekend mean that there will be high Ultra Violet ratings of UV10, very high, across the Algarve on Saturday and Sunday.

The highest levels will be between 11am and 4pm on Saturday and between midday and 4pm on Sunday. Children are advised to keep out of the sun completely during these times while adults are advised to use high factor sun protection.

Looking to the coming week, temperatures are expected to decrease slightly as the week progresses to an average of 23°C by the end of the week with night temperatures remaining consistently at an average low of 21°C all week.

There is no chance of rain all week and skies are set to remain clear until Friday when some light high cloud is expected, while winds will be moderate in speed and vary from north easterly in the first half of the week before changing to easterly by Friday.
